First of all, thanks to our community for their tremendous support of Sam's Chowder House. It's always challenging to open a new restaurant, especially one of this magnitude. We appreciate everyone pulling for us, as well as taking the time to give us your feedback. About that...we have created a new email address: feedback@samschowderhouse.com -- please feel free to use it when you have suggestions or comments. Things are pretty hectic right now and I don’t get to my blog that often – so this is the best way to get your feedback to all the right people on the Sam's team (including myself!).
Our first several months of operation were hectic! Our intent was to have a bit of a “ramp up” time to get everything up and running, so we didn’t do any promotion or advertising. So much for that plan -- the first month of operation we were jam-packed nearly every single day! Due to construction delays, we had brought on about 110 new employees, some of whom started the day before we opened! This meant we had to do a lot of on-the-job training. Needless to say it was a pretty challenging month. I'm happy to say that things are going pretty well now, and we've refined the menu, pricing, and service several times. We will continue to tweak of course on an ongoing basis.
Some of the newest items we’ve added include a Grilled Tuna Burger with Caramelized Onions & Aioli, a Dungeness Crab Salad Sandwich on a Delicious Soft Brioche Bun, and a Grilled Prawn Salad, with Field Greens, Valencia Oranges, Radish and Citrus Balsamic Dressing. We’re going to add one of my favorites as well – Barbequed Oysters. Also, next time you’re at Sam’s, ask for a sample of our soft-serve ice cream. It’s a blast from the past.
We’re going to start work soon on finishing some of the outside portions of Sam’s which is really exciting. Stay tuned…
